The Solar Stewardship Initiative (SSI) is proud to announce its membership in the Green Economy Coalition (GEC), the world’s largest alliance dedicated to transforming economic systems for a greener and fairer future.
The GEC brings together businesses, trade associations, NGOs, UN agencies and civil society groups to advocate for sustainable economic reform. By joining this network, the SSI strengthens its mission to ensure that the solar industry leads the way in responsible supply chain practices, environmental sustainability, and human rights protections.
The solar sector is experiencing rapid growth, and with it comes increasing scrutiny on transparency, traceability, and ethical sourcing. As policymakers, financial institutions, and consumers demand higher ESG (environmental, social, and governance) standards, industry-wide collaboration is key to ensuring that the clean energy transition is both sustainable and just.
By joining the Green Economy Coalition (GEC), the SSI will:
- Advance transparency and accountability in solar supply chains
- Engage in cross-industry collaboration to drive systemic economic change beyond the solar sector
- Contribute to high-level policy discussions that shape the future of ethical business practices.
- Ensure accountability by aligning with global frameworks that hold governments and corporations to the highest ESG standards.
Máté Heisz, Chair of the SSI Board, highlighted the importance of this collaboration:
“Solar is at the heart of the energy transition, and we must ensure that its rapid growth is built on strong, ethical foundations. The Green Economy Coalition unites key voices from across industries to drive change, and the SSI is proud to be part of this movement. Together, we can strengthen responsible solar supply chains and reinforce sustainability as a core pillar of a just and inclusive energy transition.”
The SSI will actively participate in GEC-led discussions, initiatives, and policy dialogues to contribute to shaping responsible economic models. This partnership also strengthens the SSI’s multi-stakeholder governance approach, ensuring that industry best practices are developed in alignment with civil society and institutional actors.
As the SSI expands its certification program and engages with new stakeholders, its work with the GEC will provide valuable insights into sustainable business practices that can be applied across the solar sector.
