SSI Standards

At the Solar Stewardship Initiative (SSI), we are setting standards for responsible solar production, sourcing, and stewardship.

SSI ESG Standard

The SSI ESG Standard is designed to evaluate a manufacturing site’s performance in three key areas:

  • Governance and Business Ethics
  • Environment
  • Human and Labour Rights.

SSI manufacturing members must commit to assess two sites against the SSI ESG Standard within 12 months of joining, by an SSI-approved Assessment Body. The SSI Assurance Process is implemented at a site level. A ‘site’ comprises several activities in the same geographic area and under the same management control.

Demonstrated commitment to ESG standards is particularly crucial for industries like solar PV, which is the fastest-growing energy technology in the world, and offers a rapid solution to decarbonise and protect citizens and businesses from volatile energy prices.

SSI Supply Chain Traceability Standard

As the solar sector continues to expand, the SSI is committed to ensuring that this growth is ethical and sustainable.

The SSI Traceability Standard is a cornerstone of our efforts, ensuring the solar value chain remains ethical. This standard’s primary goal is to track and trace the movement of goods, materials, and information at each stage of the supply chain, from the source of raw materials to the end consumer.

SSI Assurance Manual

A manual on processes that apply when preparing for an assessment against the SSI Standards, verifying conformance of a site against the requirements of the SSI Standard, certification decisions and issuing certificates based on recommendations from independent and approved third-party Assessment Bodies, and activities to be carried out after initial certification.

 

SSI Claims Guide

A guide on how to use the SSI logos, how to obtain approval for use of the claims and logos, how to raise a complaint about misuse, and any other claims relating to the SSI Membership.
